Coming from a massive disappointment, last season, as Benfica was unable to hold the big lead they had half the way through the season. Encarnados dropped form in the turning of the year, but were astonishingly weak in the post-lockdown period. Former club's hero Jorge Jesus was brought in to revive Benfica's lost flame. Jesus was brought after an impressive success in Brazil with Flamengo, last year. The club made a real statement by pairing Jorge Jesus with an impressive investment in the squad. The likes of Everton Cebolinha, Vertonghen, Waldschmidt and Darwin Nuñez were true sign of how serious Encarnados are taking this next season. Expectations for next season are as high as they can be, which might be the club's biggest adversary, this season. Dealing with initial upsets won't be easy after the limit was set very, very high. Squad seems still unsettled, particularly on the way out. But there may be some room for one or two new signings coming in, especially in midfield, since there's an evident lack of a that box-to-box player that JJ always has on his team. The regular XI for the season should be keeping very few units from last season. Rúben Dias, Weigl and Grimaldo (if gets past his injury problems) may be the only names from 2019-20 keeping a spot.

Target

Benfica is the biggest candidate for the title, this season.
