Last season was another difficult one for Celta Vigo. They didn’t spend a single round in the top half of the table and spent most of the season battling relegation right near the bottom of the table. Oscar Garcia came in as coach midway through the season and kept them up, but he didn’t especially convince and was so often tinkering with tactics. He is staying on for 2020/21 and that has to be a concern for Celta Vigo fans. This has been a fairly busy transfer window for Celta Vigo, mostly because they’ve lost several of the starters that they had on loan from other clubs, such as Jeison Murillo, Rafinha and Fedor Smolov. Even some of their more important support players have left too, now that their loans are over. Celta Vigo, therefore, still have some work to do in the market. The positive for this club is that they have Iago Aspas. This is his team and he is their leader, enjoying another excellent season last campaign. However, this is also their weakness in a way. They rely far too much on Aspas and need others to step up. Another concern is that their first-choice and second-choice goalkeepers both suffered long-term injuries towards the end of last season. They have the young Ivan Villar, but are still looking to sign a replacement.

Target

Avoiding relegation. Celta Vigo should have a good enough squad to avoid relegation, but they’ve really had to sweat it out the past couple of seasons. To avoid relegation again this year would be a success, although they’ve like to do so with more of a cushion than in 2018/19 and 2019/20.
