2019/20 was a really good year for Osasuna, as they finished 10th after coming up from the second division. Under Jagoba Arrasate they had a solid team that defended well and that caused havoc in attack through Chimy Avila. They have had a difficult transfer window, losing some quality players and struggling to bring new talents in. That is a worry, but most of the squad is staying. For now, their star striker Chimy Avila is staying too, but this could change. Osasuna lost their tenacious striker for the final months of last season as he suffered a serious knee injury and they didn’t look the same without him, so they’ll be hoping no club takes him away during the final month of the transfer window. If Avila goes then attack will become a position of weakness as they don’t have any other striker like him. Another position of weakness could be left-back as they’ve lost the excellent Pervis Estupinan, who has finished his loan and who has departed after a brilliant 2019/20. Osasuna could be in for a tougher season this year than last year, but they’ll believe they still have sufficient quality and a good enough coach to stay up.

Target

Avoiding relegation. Even though Osasuna finished inside the top half last season, it’s not quite the time to think about taking further steps forward. Instead, they must consolidate their place in Spain’s top division.
