Real Madrid come into this new season as the defending champions. They were superb after the coronavirus pause last year, winning their first 10 matches after the restart to win the title with a round to spare. Real Madrid also won the Spanish Super Cup last season, although there was disappointment in the Champions League and Copa del Rey as they didn’t go far in either competition. Given the coronavirus situation and the fact they’re spending so much on stadium redevelopments right now, this has been a summer of very little transfer activity at the club. There have been no Galactico signings, only movement regarding loan players leaving or coming back. The only really significant transfer move from Real Madrid is that of Martin Odegaard, who returns from loan after a great season at Real Sociedad to add further depth in midfield for Zinedine Zidane. Real Madrid look very strong, therefore, going into this season. They have an excellent starting line-up and also a lot of strength in depth. They surely have the strongest squad in LaLiga if looking from top to bottom. If really searching for a weakness, then it could be said that the lack of a natural replacement for Casemiro is their weak spot. The Brazilian holding midfielder is vital and doesn’t have a natural backup, but that’s the only real concern Zidane should have with this squad.

Target

Winning a treble. Real Madrid will feel they have the squad to compete in all three of the major trophies that lie ahead in 2020/21. Even if winning a treble is still a big ask, that’ll be the goal as they’ll rightly set out to win every tournament they play in.
