Vasco da Gama had a tough season in 2023. At one point, it seemed certain that the club would be relegated, but they scaped on the final matchday after a significant improvement following the arrival of coach Ramón Díaz. During the transfer window, Vasco experienced some important departures, such as winger Gabriel Pec and midfielder Marlon Gomes. However, they also strengthened their squad by adding more depth with the arrivals of forwards Clayton Silva, David, and Adson; midfielders Sforza and Galdames; defenders João Victor, Rojas, and Victor Luís; and goalkeeper Keiller. Despite the addition of new signings, the team has not shown significant progress compared to last year. They also lost midfielder Paulinho Paula, an important piece in the midfield, who is expected to be sidelined for an extended period due to a knee injury. The depth added to the squad could be a positive aspect. Although most of the new signings are not starters, Manager Díaz will have more Serie A-level options, something that was lacking in the team in 2023. Another strength of Vasco is French winger Dimitri Payet, who seems fit and has started the year in great form. On the other hand, Vasco may face struggles replacing Gabriel Pec and the injured Paulinho Paula. For Pec's position, Adson was signed for a high fee but has yet to establish himself in the team. Meanwhile, Galdames has also failed to deliver the same level of performance that Paulinho provided in midfield. As for the midfield, there is still the option of Sforza, who joined the club during the season and has not had many opportunities as a starter.
