Crawley Town remain an EFL club for now in spite of American Investment Group WAGMI United. The cryptocurrency dealers have made something of a mess in their time in charge so far, going through four managers in barely 15 months, leaving the club’s EFL status in the balance and incurring the wrath of the fans. The sight of co-Chairman Preston Johnson in the dugout in an away defeat at Stevenage after Head Coach Matthew Etherington had walked out after barely six weeks in the job bordered on farce. They did at least finally get an appointment right with Scott Lindsay making the brave decision to leave Swindon Town to take on an unenviable task. Lindsay had just enough experience and talent in the squad he inherited and they avoided the drop by just three points. The job doesn’t get any easier however with a whole host of influential loanees having returned to their parent clubs. Jack Powell and James Tilley have opted to move on to Crewe Alexandra and AFC Wimbledon respectively, whilst striker Aramide Oteh has rejected the offer of a new deal to sign for Walsall. Oteh played a pivotal role in a three-pronged attack alongside Ashley Nadesan and Dom Telford and will need to be replaced if they’re to have a similar impact this time around. The recruitment policy of signing several young players with potential on long-term deals has now been abandoned, presumably due to financial constraints. Lindsay will be hoping any money that is available can be used to strengthen the first team squad and avoid the drama of last season.

Target

Survival. It’s difficult to realistically argue for any higher ambition whilst the Red Devils remain under the current owners.
