Dominated in the Championship last season. Led by Shankland, they were unstoppable in attack and scored 14 goals in the first four games of the season. Won 9 games in a row in the middle of the season.
Their defence was just as impressive, with less than a goal a game conceded on average. With a strong, experienced spine, this side is a good, all-round team.
United managed draws with both Hibernian and Hearts in cup competitions, demonstrating they can compete with top flight clubs.
Whether Dundee will be able to continue success after winning promotion and changing manager over close season remains to be seen. But signs are good, with the Arabs' squad stronger on paper than many of the smaller top flight clubs.
New boss Micky Mellon has kept the bulk of the squad together. He has made few significant signings to boost the team but at least one high profile loan signing is set to join in the coming weeks.
Key to success will be getting the better of Ross County, Hamilton and St Mirren, taking wins in key six pointers. A slow start could be expected with much of the squad needing to acclimatise to the new league.
