The Buddies struggled against relegation last campaign. They were lucky to avoid finishing bottom after season was cut short just after a key win over Hearts. Despite a solid backline, last campaign was defined by a lack of attacking might. They scored only 3 goals in the first 8 games of the season and failed to score in 13 out of 30 league games played. Obika was a key man. He offered a much needed attacking threat and improved when partnered with loan signing Jakubiak. His lack of an established strike partner may prove problematic this time out. Goalkeeper Hladky departed and St Mirren’s key task will be replacing him. Jack Alnwick arrives from Rangers and has limited experience in Scotland. Squad last season was unsettled with a number of loan signings coming and going. Only one loan signing has arrived so far but more could be expected to follow before the transfer window closes. Pre season thrown into turmoil due to positive COVID tests among staff. Top 6 is probably too far for St Mirren but they can look to put the relegation zone further behind and develop a more consistent team. The Buddies could also look to Cup competitions for success.

Target

Eighth. The Buddies need to put distance between themselves and the relegation zone but lack the quality to hope for much else.
