Ultimately finished far behind first placed Celtic. Despite the premature end to the season and legal challenges from Rangers, it seemed unlikely they would have closed the 13 point gap. The season was defined by disciplinary issues for star striker Morelos, and the arrival of popular loan signing Ianis Hagi. Hagi has now joined permanently and adds attacking quality to midfield while Morelos is set to leave in coming weeks. Rangers are yet to make major changes to their squad. Defoe and Hagi's arrival on permanent deals will add consistency. Higher profile signings can be expected in coming weeks with transfer window not set to close until October. League disappointments aside, the club performed well in Europe, qualifying from a tough group including Porto and Feyenoord before beating Sporting Braga in the round of 32. While Rangers still have a round of 16 second leg to play against Bayer Leverkusen, they seem unlikely to progress, but another good European campaign is firmly within their sites. Gerrard is still learning as a manager and will likely need more time to beat Celtic to the title. Serious progression in cup competitions will be a more likely way of securing silverware this season.

Target

First place and a Cup win. Rangers have to push for first place, though this may be a little unrealistic. The Gers should expect at least one cup win, as they are still in the semi-finals of last season's Scottish Cup.
