After a sloppy start to the season, Fenerbahce had a remarkable second half appointing the club’s ex player Ismail Kartal as the manager. Despite only losing 1 in 18 games, Fenerbahce was 8 points short of leader Trabzonspor for a second place finish. Surprising to many, the board decided not to continue with manager Kartal. Instead, experienced Benfica legend Jorge Jesus was appointed. The most important loss in the transfer season for Fenerbahce was the departure of star central defender Min-jae Kim to Napoli. His excellent performance throughout the last season helped Fenerbahce a lot and the board did everything they could to keep him but, in the end, it was unsuccessful. Luan Peres from Marseille was signed but we will see if he will be as effective as the South Korean central back. Another problem is the lack of any finishers in the squad. Fenerbahce suffered from this last season as well but no first-choice strikers were signed during the summer. The main improvements were made to the midfield and attack with the likes of Joshua King, Lincoln, Willian Arao, Bruma, and Joao Pedro. Despite not losing important players other than Min-jae Kim and bringing in many squad players, Fenerbahce still does not seem improved and there are a few reasons for that. First of all, the weakened central defence might cause many problems if a replacement is not found in time. Also, Fenerbahce has been suffering from a lack of quality strikers for years and it can be the difference between a good season and a bad one.

Target

Without a doubt, Fenerbahce's only target for the season is to win the title. Whether the squad is good enough to achieve this is another question that should be answered at the end of the transfer window.
