Freiburg took just a single season to get promoted back to the Bundesliga after being relegated in the 2014/15 season. Christian Streich has remained in charge during their relegation and eventually promotion but the squad he will take into the Bundesliga this season bears little resemblance to the team that went down a couple of years ago. A very few notable members of the squad have remained such as captain Julian Schuster who will lead the side into a new season once again. Their defence has also largely remained intact but up front it has been all change. The team is made up of players who have done well in the second division and some who have something to prove at this level. One of those will be Nils Petersen who failed to make an impact at Bayern München and Werder Bremen. He will lead the line for Freiburg and could well be their most important player. The signings over the summer have not strengthened a particular area of the team but rather have tried to add more depth to key positions. They also managed to survive the transfer window without losing too many important players though the loss of centre back Immanuel Höhn will be a loss to the team. Streich has plenty of experience coaching at this level and the members of the squad who have experience in the Bundesliga both suggest that Freiburg will be able to compete in the league once again. Nevertheless the club will simply aim to establish themselves in the league once more and that will be their only target this season. Unlike other sides in the league Freiburg have tended to have less resources at their disposal and the January transfer window may not be the salvation it has been to other sides in the past in the Bundesliga.

Target

Freiburg will aim to avoid relegation this season and establish themselves in the league.
