Augsburg just about managed to stay clear of the bottom three despite a slump in form in the second half of the season that saw them win just once in their final 11 games. Augsburg struggled for consistency, managing just nine wins over the course of the campaign as they were poor at both ends of the pitch. Augsburg will be heading into the new season with a comparatively weakened squad after letting go of a number of mainstays at the end of last season. First choice keeper Gikiewicz has left on a free transfer while Hahn and Caligiuri's contracts were not renewed and Baumgartlinger and Strobl retired. Ricardo Pepi has also been sold for a decent chunk of money which has been used to convert Mergim Berisha's loan into a permanent transfer. Other arrivals include Tim Breithaupt and Phillip Tietz while Sven Michel will be providing depth and experience in the attack. Augsburg have lost both experience and quality in the summer and failure to bring in established names means that unless the new signings settle in quickly, it could be another long season at the wrong end of the table for Enrico Maaßen's side.

Staying clear of the bottom three will once again be the aim for Augsburg though they will need to hit the ground running
