Sheffield United really impressed on their return to the Championship last season, flirting with the play-offs at one point. You would suggest their summer transfer activity has not been good enough to mount a promotion challenge this season but with Chris Wilder at the helm, a consistent approach with three at the back tactics you never know. Certainly the men they have brought in so far are good pieces of business. Dean Henderson was outstanding for Shrewsbury last season and the on-loan Manchester United goalkeeper should make things tricky for other teams to get through. John Egan from Brentford is also a decent signing as is David McGoldrick who has been there and done it at this level. A bit of a coup appears to be the arrival of Liverpool attack-minded player Ben Woodburn. But they have also lost David Brooks to Bournemouth while others like Clayton Donaldson and Ched Evans have also left Bramall Lane. The Blades have David McGoldrick, who was at Ipswich last season, on trial and he has impressed over pre-season as he looks to win a contract at the club. United are unlikely to make too many changes from game to game, that is a feature of a Chris Wilder side and that could help them. But it is also means they could run out of steam as their season goes on, something that happened last time around. But there does not seem to be a huge squad for United this time around.

Target

Expectations have risen and everyone at the club will aim for the play-offs. But that may be slightly unrealistic.
