Wolfsburg finished strongly last season but couldn't overcome a hinrunde which was dismal to reach Europe. Given the money both paid to manager Felix Magath and paid out by him in transfer fees and wages, another failure to reach the continental stage will not really be tolerated so board and fans alike will be demanding a much more consistent campaign now. They have made two notable signings for the defence in Naldo and Pogatetz and, if the former is fit, this should be the first choice pairing. The attack has also grabbed two brilliant additions in the form of Olic and Dost but the loss of Mandzukic should not be underestimated and he will be sorely missed. Josue can provide a solid block in the central of the park, as can Hasebe, but Dejagah, Lakic, Diego and Vierinha can all provide chances and goals so the side will try to focus on attacking rather than defending. The squad size is, frankly, way too big and marshalling his substantial resources effectively will be a major challenge for Magath this year. Should he manage that, a good campaign will surely follow given the amount of quality at his disposal.

Target

Wolfsburg will be aiming to qualify for the Europa League this season.
