Barnsley were one of the big success stories in English football last term as they won promotion to the Championship. It certainly will not be easy if they wish to retain their status. Paul Heckingbottom won Barnsley the JPT last season and then promotion via the play-offs in a memorable two trips to Wembley. He was only caretaker at the time but has now been made permanent manager. The club's policy appears to be to sign lower league players and develop them. They have made several exciting signings especially striker Tom Bradshaw from Walsall and midfielder George Moncur from Colchester. There will certainly be plenty of commitment from this side who will look to surprise the bigger clubs in the division.
