Bristol City had a strange campaign last time around. They seemingly looked certain for a mid-table finish after an impressive start but soon lost their way, going on a dreadful run that nearly resulted in relegation. They turned things around late on but certainly the jury is out in regard to their hopes this time around. City still have a fairly young and inexperienced manager in Lee Johnson which the board have so far kept their absolute faith in. If they are in any kind of danger this time around, the club are likely to keep backing him if the last season is anything to go by. Much will depend on how City fill the void left by the departure of Tammy Abraham. He was only on loan from Chelsea and inevitably went back in order to move on loan to a Premier League club this term. City have now smashed their transfer record to sign striker Famara Diedhiou and they will hope he can have similar success to Jonathan Kodjia who had an outstanding start to life in English football at Ashton Gate two seasons previous. Eros Pisano has also arrived from Hellas Verona while Lee Tomlin is a surprise departure to Cardiff. City will do well to keep hold of defenders Aden Flint and Joe Bryan who have attracted plenty of attention from other clubs. They will hope to continue their good home record at a new-look Ashton Gate but their away form can be improved very much from last term.

Target

Johnson will hope his side can stay clear of a relegation battle but anything else will be a bonus.
