Last season will have to go down as an abysmal season for Norwich. Alex Neil really did not impress on any levels and eventually paid with his job. After a brief spell under the caretaker charge of Alan Irvine, the Canaries have now gone for a left field choice in the shape of Daniel Farke, a man few in England will have heard of. Norwich are clearly looking for a similar route to Huddersfield by appointing a German to change the culture of the club. They have opted to axe several big name players who have been the core of the club for some time - John Ruddy, Steven Whittaker, Michael Turner, Sebastien Bassong and Ryan Bennett to name a few. They have also sold Jonny Howson and Jacob Murphy, both significant departures. They have bought reasonably well in terms of Marley Watkins from Barnsley, James Husband from Middlesbrough, Marcel Franke from Greuther Furth and Harrison Reed on loan from Southampton. Angus Gunn, son of legendary former keeper Bryan, is also an interesting addition on loan from Manchester City. There is a feeling though that they are short of enough class within the squad to really challenge this term. It could well be a season of transition as Farke puts his stamp on the squad, current players get used to his philosophy and new ones gel. Norwich appear desperate to keep hold of Nelson Oliveira with several bids rejected for the striker. They could start the season with a few injury problems. Timm Klose and Alex Pritchard were important players last term but are likely to miss the start of this one.

Target

Farke will want a top six finish but realistically this is a campaign likely to be used as a planning one ahead of a possible promotion push in the season to follow.
