Gent had problems on the road last season and this was the main reason why they couldn’t keep up the pressure on the title-winners, but still the Buffalos remained amongst the most solid sides in the league. Especially at home Gent had been ruthless for 3 consecutive campaigns now. The squad was magnificently strengthened in the off season with 2 quality new defenders, 3 classy midfielders and proven goalscorer in Kleindienst all joining on top of Sven Kums making his full return to the club. Added to that the fact that nobody important has left the club just yet, David likely to be the first regular to depart soon, and Gent should enjoy very strong start to the new campaign. Have the second largest squad in the league, which is a serious bonus considering how congested the schedule is expected to be in 2020/21. Not just that but practically for every position on the pitch coach Thorup has at least 2 quality options so even if injuries occur Gent should still be playing strong football. Even if as expected David leaves the club Gent will still have 4 highly prolific strikers, all capable of producing 15+ goals campaign, and going forward the Buffalos should be amongst the highest scoring sides in the league. On paper it’s very hard to see any weaknesses in the squad and probably the most challenging thing for the manager will be to keep everyone happy with the amount of playing time they get.

Target

Gent have the squad to achieve top 3 finish, with possible title-challenge also on the cards if the away form improves even slightly.
