Genk failed to impress last season after so many important players left the club once the title was won in 2018/19. The Blues lacked consistency, had to change managers and never really found stability up until the campaign was abruptly stopped in February. Hannes Wolf had less than 2 months in charge when the previous campaign finished, but he had lots of time since to get to know his squad better. The fact that so far in this off season no regular has left Genk is major positive. At the same time 2 quality new full-backs joined from Latin America, important Kouassi and Ito made their loan stints permanent moves and also recently added new centre forward to the ranks. Coach Wolf is known for using progressive tactics and constantly changing formations to suit specific opponents, so Genk are likely to be fluid and rotating regularly throughout the season. Look very strong out wide with lots of quality full-backs and wingers eager to shine. The 2 flanks should bring most of the chances created this term as things stand right now. Also Norwegians Thorstvedt and Daehli had very little time to impress since joining in January, but big things are expected from them now after hefty fees were paid to sign them. As things stand there is still need of strengthening in defence and in attack. Currently have only 3 typical centre-backs on the books, while recently signed Dessers is the only really prolific goalscorer in the squad.

Target

Genk target top 3 finish, although this might be difficult task to achieve. Still should have no problems securing top 6 position.
