In 2020/21, Leicester City missed out on Champions League qualification on the final matchday for a second consecutive season, despite spending numerous rounds in top-4 positions. The Foxes ended the season with three defeats in the last five rounds, but they managed to lift their first ever FA Cup trophy after beating Chelsea in the final. They’ve kept all their stars ahead of the upcoming campaign and strengthened their attack with a promising forward in Patson Daka, who is expected to be a long-term replacement for the ageing James Vardy. Long-serving players Christian Fuchs and Wes Morgan departed Leicester City, with the latter hanging up his boots, but the team’s backbone remains intact. Boubakary Soumare also joined from Ligue 1 reigning champions Lille and is expected to provide the Foxes with further depth in a strong midfield that already features the likes of Tielemans, Ndidi and Maddison. As Brendan Rodgers stressed before off-season, Leicester City are in need of more goal threat and more physicality and he could look to further strengthen his team’s attack and possibly sign another centre-back this summer. Leicester City will try to overcome their demons next season and find consistency, especially in the final stretch of the campaign, in pursuit of a top-four spot. If they manage to beat Manchester City in the Community Shield and grab another title, they will be given a huge boost in morale ahead of a demanding Premier League campaign.
