A topsy turvy campaign for Charleroi in 2022/23 saw them really struggle until the winter break. However, the appointment of Felice Mazzu brought about an improvement in performances and results as they just missed out on the European playoffs. A quiet off season so far has seen Kayembe as the only significant player to leave with the left-back joining Genk. Striker Bayo’s loan spell has ended, he was a regular starter after joining in January but only scored three times. The few incomings so far look decent acquisitions. Striker Dabbagh scored 11 goals in the Portuguese top flight last season, winger Bernier impressed at times for Seraing during their last two seasons in Belgian First Division A and midfielder Rogelj started regularly in the Austrian Bundesliga last campaign. The strength of Charleroi under Mazzu is that they have become a hardworking side that is difficult to beat. Mazzu has a history of getting the best out of mid-table sides. Weakness, were fortunate with injuries during their successful period last season, with a small squad, an injury to three of four regular starters could significantly affect them.

Target

European playoffs. A full campaign under Mazzu should see them perform well but difficult to see them mounting a top four challenge.
