An excellent first campaign back in the Belgian top flight for Westerlo last season, finishing 7th to make the European playoffs. They did have a drop off towards the end of the campaign, only winning one of their last 10 matches. The off season has seen them manage to keep hold of Head Coach Jonas De Roeck who has led the club over their last two successful campaigns. The wingbacks were important in De Roeck’s system last season with the on-loan duo of De Cuyper and Reynolds thriving, however, they have now left. Important forwards Chadli and Nene were also only on temporary contracts. Coming in, De Bos has the same profile as De Cuyper and Westerlo fans will hope he can have the same impact. Van den Keybus joins on a permanent deal after impressing on loan last season. De Roeck has conceded that more quality needs adding to the squad and is confident that will be done before the transfer window closes. Scoring goals was an undoubted strength of Westerlo last season. The attacking philosophy of De Roeck brought excitement but also got them into trouble from time to time. The question is will this continue to work, does the young Head Coach have the nous / experience to change his style if they have a poor run?

Target

Expectations will be raised after last season. Improving on 7th is a big ask, a solid mid-table finish would be acceptable.
