Bochum once again stayed afloat despite a turbulent start to last season. The rumours of coach Thomas Reis' imminent departure affected the club as they lost the first six games but Thomas Letsch took the reins and restored order. Their strong form at home made the difference in the end but survival wasn’t confirmed until the final day. There hasn't been an awful lot of money spent on new signings in the summer but Bochum have still managed to bring in seven new faces, most of which have been signed on a free transfer. They have also managed to keep the main core of their squad together for the upcoming campaign. Moritz-Broni Kwarteng from Magdeburg is the most exciting of the transfers so far due to his unpredictability and quick movement. Lukas Daschner is also looking to prove himself at this level after impressing in the second tier with St.Pauli. Bochum conceded 72 goals last season so defence is certainly an area that needed improvement. Brazilian Bernardo is a strong left-footed defender who can play in the centre or as a full-back and has had good experience at a high level with Leipzig and Salzburg previously. Felix Passlack from Dortmund should also help despite not playing much football over the last few years while Noah Loosli gives them more strength in depth. Bochum are weaker compared to a lot of teams in the division but few can compete with their never-say-die attitude. Some of their important players from last season are ageing so that could be a concern. However, they should continue to press from the front and not allow the opposition any peace.

Target

Survival will again be the main target for Bochum but pushing towards a mid-table place could be possible if they continue their strong home form from last season.
