A poor start to last season cost Rangers any chance of winning the title. Improvements followed after switching to manager Beale, but the team lagged behind rivals Celtic and failed to make headway in Cup competitions. A long injury list and fixture congestion caused major issues for the team. Some major new signings over summer look promising. England national team goalkeeper Butland is a big acquisition and replaces ageing keepers. Forwards Dessers, Sima and Lammers offer a major attacking boost. Return of Balogun could give solid cover in defence. After a positive pre-season, Rangers will be hopeful of a good campaign. They can build on an already strong team and good work done by Beale. Defence is very strong. They conceded few goals last season and have added some good backup options to ensure plenty of squad depth. A new keeper should help in this area. Forward line is a slight area of weakness for the team. Although they scored lots of goals last time, they lacked a consistent striker and relied on fullback Tavernier for many goals. New forward line signings could help if players can settle in quickly.

Target

1st. Nothing less than top spot will be good enough for Rangers, despite strong opposition.
