Bielefeld defied the odds to stay in the top flight after a solid last campaign. They looked to be in trouble at one stage but a change of manager helped turn their fortunes around. Coach Kramer has done a good job since his arrival in March but further tests are to come this season as Bielefeld look to solidify their status in the Bundesliga. One of the issues from last season was the lack of goals and the club have tried to address this over the summer. Young strikers Serra and Kruger both have the potential to succeed in the top division after impressing in the league below. Other purchases include winger Lasme and midfielder’s Schopf and Vasiliadis, they should all bring extra quality to Bielefeld's attacking play. Bielefeld are likely to be compact and difficult to beat again under Kramer, the defence has also been strengthened with the signing of Portuguese centre-back Ramos. Bielefeld will still be lacking in quality compared to some sides in the division but they will be up for the fight. They will miss the presence of Ritsu Doan, who has returned to his parent club after his successful loan spell, experienced attacker Voglsammer has also moved on and will be a loss.

Survival - Bielefeld are in better shape for survival than last season but the second year after promotion is sometimes the more difficult. They will have to work hard and home form will be key in picking up crucial points.
