Greuther Furth returned to the top flight of German football for the first time in nine years after an excellent campaign last season that saw them finish second in the 2.Bundesliga, just three points behind champions Bochum. Furth though have been a bit hamstrung in the transfer market due to lack of funds and have had to rely on loan deals and free transfers. They have brought in Adrian Fein, Jessic Ngankam and Justin Hoogma on loans from Bayern Munchen, Hertha Berlin and Hoffenheim respectively while Nils Seufert, Gideon Jung and Max Christiansen have been signed on free transfers. They have lost a key player in Anton Stach with the midfielder sold to Mainz. David Raum has also left the club for Hoffenheim while Mergim Mavraj, Sebastian Ernst, Alexander Lungwitz and Paul Jaeckel were released after their contracts expired. Furth have impressed under Stefan Leitl and boasted of the second best attack last season though they struggled a bit defensively, having the joint worst defensive record amongst the top six of the 2.Bundesliga. With their midfield cover lost following Stach's departure, Furth may find it hard defensively once again this season and they are likely to struggle in their quest to extend their stay in the Bundesliga for a second season.

Target

Will start the season as favorites for the drop though they will be hoping to upset the odds and extend their stay in the Bundesliga.
