Freiburg finished just below mid-table last season and, although lower than the previous campaign, it was another solid showing under the guidance of long-term coach Christian Streich. It has been a very quiet transfer window so far for Freiburg, the club, like many others, have been hit financially by the pandemic and there are limited funds available. Streich has now focused his attention on bringing youngsters up through the ranks and that has been reflected in the summer. Six youth team players have been recruited up to the first team and they will be hoping to get their chance this season. Freiburg have yet to sign any players but, on the other hand, haven't lost many either. Key players from last season all remain, this includes Grifo, Santamaria, Gunter, Sallai and Demirovic. You can expect more of the same from Freiburg this coming season, committed and disciplined, not to mention, pleasing on the eye going forward, the fact that the squad has been kept together is also a big plus. Their only slight downfall could be their lack of squad depth if injuries do occur, there may be some promising youngsters on the books but they will be inexperienced at this level.

Target

Top half - The fact that Freiburg have yet to strengthen their squad will make it difficult for them to push for anything more than the top half. They will give most teams a game but could struggle against the better sides.
