Bayern Munchen failed to kick on under coach Julian Nagelsmann and, while they did achieve their minimum aim of lifting the Bundesliga title, they once again fell short in the cup competitions, suffering an early exit in the DFB Cup while also being below-par in the Champions League. Unlike last season, Bayern have been fairly active in the transfer window this summer but will be heading into the new campaign on the backfoot for the first time in recent years. Bayern have had to let go of two of their first choice players with Sule unwilling to extend his contract while the bigger miss will be Lewandowski who forced a move to Barcelona. Omar Richards, Chris Richards and Roca have moved on to the Premier League while Tolisso, Hoffmann, Fruchtl and Lukas Mai have also left the club. Bayern have replaced Sule with an upgrade in Matthijs de Ligt, with the defender arriving from Juventus and is expected to be a starter, but they have as yet failed to bring in a direct replacement for Lewandowski. Sadio Mane has been signed from Liverpool but is more similar to Leroy Sane and it remains to be seen whether he can be converted into a striker. Other signings include Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui, both arriving from Ajax and are expected to improve the squad depth. Mathys Tel has also been signed from Rennes for a sizeable fee but the youngster is seen more of a bet for the future than immediately improving the squad.

Target

Securing the Bundesliga will once again be the minimum aim though a marked improvement will be expected in the cup tournaments, both domestically and in Europe.
