Eintracht Frankfurt performed well below expectations in the league last year but it still ended in another historic campaign for the Eagles as they lifted their first major European trophy in four decades by winning the Europa League. Frankfurt have been busy this summer looking to improve their squad depth, converting loan moves of Jakic and Hauge into permanent deals while also bringing in a number of fresh players. The biggest of them is Mario Gotze, with the midfielder signed from PSV, while Lucas Alario and Randal Muani will provide tough competition to Rafael Borre in the attack, with the striker failing to convince last season. With Tuta and N'Dicka expected to occupy two of the three central defensive positions, new signings Jerome Onguene and Hrvoje Smolcic will be fighting it out for the remaining spot, especially with Martin Hinteregger released from his contract. Other arrivals include Faride Alidou and Aurelio Buta on free transfers while Marcel Wenig is seen more as an option for the future. Frankfurt have let go of a number of their support players with the likes of Ilsanker, Barkok and Danny da Costa released on free while Kohr, Durm and Zuber have also been sold with Ache sent on loan in the second division. There could be further departures including that of Kostic who has attracted interest from the Premier League and will need to be replaced.

Target

Frankfurt have qualified for Europe in three of their last four seasons either directly through their league position or by lifting silverware and that will be the aim once again though coach Oliver Glasner will be looking to improve on a disappointing league finish from last season.
