Union Berlin enjoyed another historic campaign last season, just about missing out on a top four finish by just one point though they did book their place in the Europa League for the first time in their history. Coach Urs Fischer got Berlin playing in an efficient manner and, while they may not have won the hearts of the purists, Berlin did enjoy strong runs both in the league and domestic cup campaigns. They will be missing a couple of first choice players ahead of the new season, though, with starting keeper Andreas Luthe moving to Kaiserslautern while top scorer Taiwo Awoniyi has been sold to Nottingham Forest. Berlin have been fairly busy in the transfer window though majority of their arrivals have been on free transfers. They have managed to snag promising defender Diogo Leite from Porto while Jordan Siebatcheu is expected to replace Awoniyi as the first choice striker. Other notable arrivals include Paul Seguin, Janik Haberer and Morten Thorsby, all of whom will be boosting Fischer's options in the midfield while Jamie Leweling has been signed as the backup striker. With no big names in the squad, Berlin will once again need to rely on their hard work to grind out positive results and, while a top four finish may be a step too far given the quality of the squad, Fischer will be aiming for a repeat of their last season heroics in the next campaign.

Berlin have improved from the last season in each of their three campaigns in the Bundesliga and, while they may have reached their peak, Fischer will be aiming for another push towards in the European qualification spots.
