After 2 years in the Third Tier Eintracht Braunschweig returned to Bundesliga 2. Yellow and Blues finished just a point off Bundesliga 3 winners Bayern Munchen II, but also only 1 point above the first team outside the top 3 Duisburg so the battle for promotion went right to the wire. The main reason for the promotion was the utterly impressive home form shown in 2020 – (W6 D3 L0)! Despite the success coach Marco Antwerpen was replaced by much more experienced at this level Daniel Meyer in the off-season. The only regulars to leave Braunschweig this summer were at the club only on loan, with the strengthening of the squad going pretty well so far. Wydra and Nikolaou are great defensive additions to the ranks, Felix Kroos joins expected to be the new engine of the midfield, Kaufmann is very useful wide midfielder and Abdullahi should be leading the attack in most games. However, probably the main achievement of this summer was convincing star playmaker Kobylanski (18 goals and 13 assists last season) to stay for at least 1 more year. Right now Braunschweig look pretty solid and ready for the challenges of life at this level. Most of the squad members have rich Bundesliga 2 experience + the majority of the players are in their prime (between age 26 and 30) so the pieces are there for a successful campaign. The home form and the experience of most key players are amongst the main strengths of the squad. In terms of weakness the obvious one is the lack of depth in attack, with Braunschweig in need of at least 1-2 more strikers if they want to feel confident they will be scoring enough goals.

Target

Staying out of trouble and keeping steady mid-table position the main priority. Should have enough quality in their ranks to achieve that.
