The last campaign ended in heartbreak for Dusseldorf as they were relegated on the final day. A poor first-half to the campaign saw a change in manager and, although results improved under new coach Uwe Rosler, he ultimately couldn’t save them from the drop. Dusseldorf have stuck with Rosler and feels he’s the man to rebuild the team and get them back up at the first time of asking. In the summer they have, as expected, lost some of their regulars from last season, defensive areas in particular have been hit with the departures of Ayhan, Suttner and Gießelmann. Rosler has made some shrewd signings so far this summer, including the loan deals for young centre-back Kevin Danso from Augsburg and winger Brandon Borello from Freiburg. They have also added experienced Liga 2 players Edgar Prib from Hannover and Florian Hartherz from Arminia Bielefeld. Jakub Piotrowski is another healthy addition in central midfield. Dusseldorf’s biggest weakness last season was scoring goals and they will look to strikers Kenan Karaman and Dawid Kownaki to provide the inspiration. There were signs towards the end of last season that Rosler was making the side more of an attacking one to his predecessor and that should come more into force this season with the drop down of division.

Target

Promotion will clearly be the goal for Dusseldorf but, as this division has proved on many occasions, it’s easier said than done. They will need to get off to a good start to rebuild the confidence and hope the new look side can gel quickly.
