Last season was a bad one for Nurnberg, only a last minute goal in a relegation play-off saved them from a humiliating drop to the third-tier. A lack of desire and creativity, shocking home form and questionable tactics all played a part as The Club struggled. After Damir Canadi and Jens Keller were both shown the door last season, The club have appointed young coach Robert Klauß. The former Leipzig assistant certainly has his work cut out to get Nurnberg back up where they belong. Klauß has moved quickly to try and rectify a clear problem last season, which was scoring goals. Manuel Schaffler has been brought in up front, proven at this level, he scored an impressive 19 goals for Wehen Wiesbaden last season. Another striker Pascal Kopke also comes in from Hertha and will add much needed firepower. It looks as though Klauß will focus his main attention on youth, bringing players up through the ranks as well as bringing in 3 on loan. Robin Hack was a rare highlight last season and they will look to build around the talented attacking midfielder for the coming season. Nurnberg were unable to hold on to promising defensive midfielder Patrick Erras, who has left to join Werder Bremen. Nurnberg’s main strength is likely to be their possession game, but they need to turn it into goals, something they were unable to do last term. A weakness could be their confidence if results don’t go well but hopefully Klauß can motivate the side more than his two predecessors.

Target

Promotion- Nurnberg have enough quality to be up fighting for promotion but if last season is anything to go by a top half finish would be a step up.
