Felix Magath's second coming in Wolfsburg last year ended miserably and he was duly sacked long before the season got to the Christmas break. With Dieter Hecking on board the team looked much better and in fact their form in the second half of the season was among the best in league, they narrowly missed out on European football with their home form letting them down after suffering too many draws in the Volkswagen Arena and this is something they must amend this term. The constant turnover of players has continued this year with a number of players leaving the club including Fagner who was the starting right back for most of last season and he will be a loss for the team. Vaclav Pilar was also a starter for most of last year but otherwise they have lost many squad and fringe players. To replace them parent company Volkswagen have opened their cheque book and signed a whole raft of players with a number coming from other Bundesliga sides. Daniel Caligiuri impressed last year with Freiburg and will fit into a creative midfield well with Timm KLose brought in to shore up a leaky defence. Most importantly they have kept hold of Diego who is their key player and he will pull the strings this year in midfield as always. They will certainly hope to start better than last year with them at times in the relegation spots but Hecking has got them playing much better and a top half finish is on the cards, perhaps even a challenge for a top six finish of they can improve their home form.

Target

A top half finish is well within their grasps and they may be able to push on towards the top six if they start well.
