Vasco da Gama's eighteenth spot back in 2015 came as a surprise, but the team from Rio de Janeiro didn't need that much time to bounce back. Their Serie B campaign wasn't that convincing, but the third spot earned them the Serie A ticket for the 2017 season. The expectations weren't that high with the recent years in mind, but Vasco's season at the highest level was actually more than decent. This outfit immediately created a gap with the bottom four and they even managed to finish seventh. Manager Ze Ricardo will be motivated now to repeat the last results, but that isn't such an easy mission. Mateus Vital and Madosn left the club to join Corinthians and Gremio respectively, while Luis Fabiano was released. The experienced striker still has his scoring qualities, but several injuries wasted the season for him. Ze Ricardo will have to build a new team now, which will be even more difficult as a relatively large number of players joined Vasco recently. These players will be motivated to show their skills in Rio de Janeiro, but it will result in a big puzzle as well. Vasco da Gama should be able to finish in the top half of the table though, which is already positive news giver their recent relegation.

Target

Pushing for a Copa Libertadores ticket seems like a realistic goal.
