Sao Paulo finished second in 2014, but recent seasons have seen this team drop to mid-table and even worse. The ambitions were there again at the start of the 2017 campaign, but a woeful start put the pressure on Sao Paulo. This outfit even slipped into the relegation zone, but they did secure their Serie A spot eventually by performing better during the second half of the season. Hernanes' arrival in Sao Paulo during the campaign pushed the performances to a higher level. The experienced attacking midfielder immediately made an impact, but he won't be there for the new season. The fans will hope for better days now, but Diego Aguirre, the new Uruguayan manager, will have to form a new team without Hernanes and Lucas Pratto. The club did manage to add exciting names like Diego Souza to the squad and the qualities should be there to prevent problems during the first months of the season. Aguirre will have to deal with expectations and a new squad, and it remains to be seen if he can handle this kind of pressure. It will be an exciting new season no matter what.

Target


Climbing away from the danger zone and push for a top ten spot will be the main objective. The fans will hope for more though.
