The 13th and the 15th spot in the Serie B back in 2015 and 2016 didn't earn Parana any confidence at the start of the 2017 season, but the team from Curitiba somehow managed to book progression nevertheless, but that wasn't all. Parana even claimed the third spot after 38 matches, which resulted in the surprising promotion to the Serie A. It was an impressive achievement, but a shock indeed and the winter break showed this as Parana used all their connections and tiny budget to bring their squad up to par. This wasn't an easy task at all and manager Rogerio Micale will face one of the toughest missions at the start of the new season. The coach trained Atletico Mineiro briefly last season, but this will be something else. Several (loan) players joined Parana recently and this big group of players will be motivated to show their skills on the highest level. It will be difficult now though to create a group of twenty regulars as all these players expect game minutes. Cleber Reis is one of the experienced players within the squad. The Santos defender played fourteen matches in the Serie A last season for Coritiba. This completely new outfit will have to surprise the nation to extend their stay on the highest level.
