Gremio's 2017 season turned out a success despite their fourth spot after 38 matches in the Serie A. The Porto Alegre side were in the race for the title as well, but the extremely packed schedule forced the staff to make tough decisions. Gremio even played with reserves during the last weeks of the season as the club decided to focus on the Copa Libertadores, which seemed like the right decision. Two wins over Argentinian side Lanus in the final earned Gremio the cup. Manager Renato Gaucho will try to book progression in the Serie A this season as his side dropped to the fourth spot towards the end last year. Key players like Pedro Geromel, Walter Kannemann and Luan Vieira are still in Porto Alegre despite several transfer rumors, which is positive news. One of the exciting new signings this year is Paulo Miranda. The 29-year-old centre-back was a regular in the defence for Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in the last two season, but he switched back to Brazil during the winter break to play for Gremio.

Target

Gremio should be able to push for success again as they managed to maintain the quality within the squad. A top three finish will be the goal again and the fans could hope for more with the Copa Libertadores win still fresh in mind.
