A superb 2022/23 season for Ipswich saw them finish 2nd in League One and earn automatic promotion back to the Championship. The Tractor Boys lost just four times in the league as they racked up an impressive 98 points from 46 league games. The off season has seen few changes at Portman Road as young manager Kieran McKenna looks to mastermind a successful Championship campaign. Midfielder Taylor has been brought in after impressing at Peterborough over several seasons in League One and the Championship. Striker Hirst comes in after performing well on loan at Town last campaign, young Chelsea winger Hutchinson is somewhat of an unknown as he embarks on his first senior loan spell. There haven’t been any significant outgoings with all the key players from last season including strikers Chaplin and Ladapo (43 league goals between them in 2022/23) remaining at the club. Ipswich were outstanding in all departments in League One last season as they topped the charts for goals scored (101) and least goals conceded (35). They have an established, close-knit group of players led by an ambitious manager. The question is how they will adapt to the Championship? They have largely chosen to stick by the players that won them promotion – some have Championship experience, some don’t.

Target

Staying up is the obvious target. The incredible momentum they have from last season and the feelgood factor around the club could push them towards the playoffs.
