Millwall enjoyed a decent 2022/23 season but they just missed out on making the playoffs after three defeats in their last four matches, finishing 8th. The Lions will again be led by Gary Rowett who has overseen finishes of 8th, 11th, 9th and 8th since he was appointed Millwall boss in October 2019. The off season at The Den has been relatively quiet. Malone and Bennett, squad regulars for the last few campaigns, have left. Cresswell, Styles and Shackleton were valuable players last season after joining on loan but have now returned to their parent clubs. Key attacking midfielder Flemming (15 league goals last season) has been the subject of four failed bids from new Premier League side Burnley. The squad has been bolstered with the signings of dependable full-backs Bryan and Harding. De Norre impressed in the Belgian top flight last season while striker Nisbet hit 12 goals in 19 games for Hibernian in 2022/23 and has hit the ground running in pre-season. Millwall under Rowett have been a strong Championship side, always hard to beat. They added a real threat last season with Flemming and Bradshaw finding the net with regularity. If there was a weakness last season it was not being able to string wins together. They had a run of four victories in October and back-to-back wins in March but apart from that weren’t able to win successive matches.

Playoffs again will be the aim.
