Lincoln endured a pretty awful season last year upon relegation from the Football League and for a while it looked like they were heading for another disaster. A late surge of form along with the demise of Darlington and Kettering saved them but there was little else the Imps fans could be happy about. With the club struggling for money, it is hardly a time for lofty expectations but still the fans will be hoping that David Holdsworth creates a decent team that could challenge for the top places. The evidence so far is that Lincoln will be once again treading water, this time in mid-table, given the lack of quality signings in the squad and the departure of skilful striker Sam Smith with just a week of the new season left. The likes of Rob Duffy, Gary Mills and Adam Smith are all decent players at this level but are not expected to make any sort of profound difference to a team that look devoid of quality, flair and composure for the majority of last season. Dan Gray is at least expected to provide height and solidity at the back and Paul Farman is a decent keeper but overall it is difficult to see the team setting the world alight in the coming season and ensuring safety as quickly as possible will be the main objective.

Target

Securing safety and hoping to finish in the upper half of the table.
